Behind the Build

What Was Broken

Most websites get weighed down by bloated page builders and dozens of random plugins. Every time a client wants to add a layout or change a picture, they either break the design or have to pay a developer to touch the code. On top of that, all those messy builder layers choke the browser, leaving the site with a sluggish 3-second load time.

How I Built the Fix

Instead of stacking heavy plugins, I used AI in my development workflow to write clean, custom WordPress blocks from scratch.

  • Clean Code, Zero Bloat: The blocks only load the exact code needed. No nested container junk, no layout lag, and instant Core Web Vitals passes.

  • Simple for Clients to Edit: I built custom editing panels for each block that feel just like Elementor—Content, Style, and Advanced controls. Anyone on the marketing team can swap photos and change text without touching code or calling a developer.

  • Tied into Design Tokens: Layouts map straight from Figma into production code, making them reusable across multiple projects (tokens.husef.net).

Strategic Direction

For the images bellow, this is a custom, AI-engineered publishing engine built directly inside WordPress. It replaces heavy, bloated page builders with lean, native blocks and hand-coded templates, allowing non-technical teams to launch beautiful, brand-safe case studies in minutes while keeping page speeds blazing fast.

  • Phase 1 — Structuring the Data (Custom Post Types): Set up dedicated Custom Post Types and fields so the raw information (titles, specs, deliverables, galleries) stays organized and completely separate from how the page looks.

  • Phase 2 — Modular Block Building: Developed native, drag-and-drop Gutenberg blocks using React. This gives the team flexible page layouts without relying on bloated, third-party page builders.

  • Phase 3 — Custom Single-Post Engine: Working without ACF Pro, I used an AI-assisted coding workflow to hand-code a dynamic single-post template. This bypassed premium plugin fees and delivered a lightweight, custom layout engine with zero extra bloat.

  • Phase 4 — Client-Friendly Controls: Built intuitive editing panels directly into the WordPress sidebar—handling layout styles, spacing, typography, and buttons. It gives content editors creative freedom while keeping brand guidelines and layouts locked in place.

  • Phase 5 — Fast, Safe Publishing: Content creators can launch detailed, rich case studies in minutes without breaking the design, while developers never have to worry about messy code slowing down the site.
